rebuilds

Engines and gearboxes are at the heart of every Land Rover, and when they begin to show their age the best answer is often a proper rebuild. We offer full refurbishment services, from light overhauls through to complete strip-downs and machining, to bring your Land Rover’s powertrain back to life.

We’re fortunate to work closely with a local engine rebuilder who has been a friend of the family for many years. With over 50 years of engine building experience, his workshop is an Aladdin’s cave of equipment, from precision machining tools to specialist presses and grinders. That combination of traditional skill and the right tools means we can take on almost any classic Land Rover engine with confidence.

Between us we can rebuild everything from an early Series One petrol to the last of the classic Defender diesels. Blocks can be re-bored, heads skimmed, valves refaced, cranks ground, and pistons and bearings replaced, all to the correct tolerances. Once the machining is done, we handle the assembly and refitting, making sure the engine is run in properly and fully tested before it goes back on the road.

Alongside engines, we also refurbish Land Rover transmissions. Gearboxes and transfer boxes can be stripped, inspected, and rebuilt with new bearings, seals, and gears where required. Whether you have a Series main box, an LT77, R380, or LT230 transfer box, we can return it to smooth, reliable service.

Whether your engine or transmission is tired, leaking, noisy, or simply due for a refresh after decades of work, we can return it to reliable working order. The aim is always the same: to give you a powertrain that feels strong, dependable, and ready for many more years of use, while keeping the character of the original.

Our process...

We start with a full inspection and report, so you know exactly what is required. From there we create a rebuild plan, whether that’s replacing worn parts, machining key components, or carrying out a complete restoration. When the work is finished you’ll receive a clear explanation of everything that’s been done, along with the confidence that your Land Rover has been rebuilt by people who know them inside and out.
